Sheamus, a WWE superstar, has said that the Intercontinental Championship Match at WrestleMania39 should have been the main event.

Intercontinental champion GUNTHER successfully defended his gold at WrestleMania 39 on Sunday. He defeated Sheamus, Drew McIntyre and reclaimed his title.

This match was deemed by many fans to be the best of WrestleMania’s weekend. It was a relatively minor match on the WrestleMania Sunday card.

Sheamus said on Virgin Media Sports Stories that the triple threat match for the Intercontinental Title should have been played last.

Sheamus spoke about his WWE goals:

The IC Title is all that matters. I also want to be the main event at WrestleMania. I also want to be the main event at WrestleMania. Another one. Both the IC Title as well as the main event at WrestleMania is what I’m aiming for.

“I should’ve main-evented WrestleMania this year or last year (2023). It should have been the last. It stole the show during WrestleMania. The match between me, Gunther and Drew were the best match I’ve ever seen.

I knew it was inevitable. “I was so close to winning the title at Mania and it got taken from me.”

WrestleMania’s final match was the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, in which Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns on controversial terms after Solo Sikoa interfered.

Reigns is next to defend his gold against LA Knight and Randy Orton in a four-way match at Royal Rumble 2020, after the Bloodline interfered in the #1 contenders’ match on Friday night’s SmackDown (January 5).
