Pre-AEW Arrival: Sasha Banks aka Mercedes Moné Shares Insights on WWE Journey
Recent revelations have emerged regarding the former Sasha Banks, Mercedes Mone, and her discussions with WWE before making her debut in AEW tonight.
There was a period where Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, was reportedly in negotiations with WWE.
Following a severe ankle injury sustained during the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship match against Willow Nightingale, Mone underwent multiple surgeries, raising concerns about her career.
During her recovery period, as disclosed by Fightful Select, Mone entertained discussions with both All Elite Wrestling and WWE, indicating that talks were indeed underway between the two parties.
Despite appearing at All In in August without a formal agreement with AEW, there was an understanding that a collaboration was in the works. However, talks with AEW fell through, prompting discussions about a potential return to WWE. Unfortunately, an agreement couldn’t be reached between Mone and WWE.
According to sources within WWE as reported by Fightful Select, the conversations were amicable, with WWE expressing best wishes for Mone’s future endeavors. However, it was anticipated that she would sign elsewhere soon.
Ultimately, Mone chose to sign with All Elite Wrestling well in advance of her debut, scheduled for tonight, March 13 in Boston.
While there was speculation about her debut in January, AEW opted to wait until now due to concerns about her medical clearance a few months prior.
