NJPW Welcomes Fresh Leadership with the Appointment of a New Company President

In a captivating development from NJPW, the legendary Hiroshi Tanahashi has taken on the role of the new President within the wrestling organization.

According to NJPW:

Following a meeting of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s board of directors and shareholders on December 23, 2023, significant changes have been implemented in the company’s management structure.

Reason for the management change:

Restructuring of the management hierarchy

Newly appointed officials:

President & Representative Director: Hiroshi Tanahashi

Director: Hitoshi Matsumoto (Chief of Business Production, TV Asahi)

Director: Taro Okada (President & CEO, Bushiroad Fight) *Mr. Okada’s role is part-time

Effective December 23, Takami Ohbari and Michiaki Nishizawa will step down from their positions as President/Representative Director and Director, respectively.

Profile of the newly appointed President/Representative Director:

Hiroshi Tanahashi, born on November 13, 1976, in Ogaki City, Gifu, graduated in law from Ristumeikan University. Joining NJPW in 1999, Tanahashi made his debut in October of the same year. He secured the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the first time in 2006, a record achievement of eight times, coupled with four pro-wrestling MVP titles, earning him the moniker ‘Ace’ of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

A press conference is scheduled for December 26 at 1 PM JST to discuss the aforementioned changes.

Expressing gratitude for the continuous support of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, a special address by Hiroshi Tanahashi, in his new role as President, will take place on January 4 at Belc Presents Wrestle Kingdom 18 in the Tokyo Dome. Hiroshi Tanahashi currently holds the NEVER Openweight 6-man championship alongside Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii.
