Rob Van Dam Delves into AEW Wrestlers Seeking Advice and Breaking Expectations

One of the critiques that have been made against the young wrestlers in AEW is that they don’t solicit advice from veteran wrestlers, however Rob Van Dam has provided an exception to the notion. “To the credit of some of the boys in AEW, when I was there I did have some of them pick my brain [and] come up to me,” Van Dam said in the show “1 Of A Kind.” “So that’s the other side.” RVD acknowledged that a portion of the stars have been able to talk to him and told him they loved his work while they were kids. RVD has made sporadic appearances on behalf of the company and has partnered with young stars like Jack Perry and HOOK, showing that he’s willing make use of his fame to aid others.

“I’ve had them come up and say, ‘Do you see anything that I could do better?’ That goes a long way,” RVD declared. “Does that mean that they all grew up watching and respecting me and not the generation above me? That’s a lot of assumption but that’s one perspective to take.” It’s a viewpoint is he has after hearing the comments from people like Arn Anderson and other stars behind the scenes at AEW. But it was an interview he had personally with Tully Blanchard that showed how many of the veteran performers aren’t being tapped into.

“I stopped to talk to him [Blanchard], I respect the f*** out of his work and I wanted to tell him,” RVD said. “He was telling me that as long as he’s been there none of the young guys have one time come up to him for any advice, how he would do something.”
