Swerve Strickland Dives into His Experience Working Alongside CM Punk in AEW
In a recent interview with Bootleg Kev, AEW sensation Swerve Strickland opened up about his experience working alongside former WWE and AEW World Champion, CM Punk. Reflecting on their time together, Strickland shed light on some memorable moments shared with the wrestling icon.
During AEW All In London, CM Punk’s showdown with Samoa Joe for the “Real” World Title took center stage. However, the event gained additional attention due to an unexpected backstage altercation between Punk and Jack Perry, resulting in Punk’s departure from All Elite Wrestling.
Despite limited on-screen interactions, both Punk and Swerve participated in a multi-man All-Star tag team match leading up to All In London. Recalling his interactions with Punk, Strickland expressed admiration for the veteran wrestler.
“I was fortunate to have my last TV match against him during the All-Star tag match on Collision,” said Strickland. “Although our on-screen interactions were minimal, I always cherished the positive experiences shared with him.”
Strickland fondly remembered Punk’s spontaneous act of photobombing during his initial photo session. “I hadn’t even exchanged words with him, but his playful gesture made me feel welcomed. It was a cool moment,” he added.
Even during his contract signing, Strickland appreciated Punk’s supportive demeanor. “He always offered encouragement and positivity. His influence on me has been profound,” he remarked.
While Punk made a triumphant return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, his comeback was short-lived as he suffered a torn triceps injury during his match at WWE Royal Rumble 2024.
