Ex-AEW Sensation Joey Janela Persuades Ricky Steamboat to Embrace Heel Persona

The former AEW star and the current GCW celebrity Joey Janela says he almost got WWE Hall of Famers Ricky Steamboat into turning heel.

Ricky Steamboat is widely regarded as one of the top babyfaces who ever stepped into a ring of wrestling.

Steamboat has a unique breed of the business, and legendary with over 30 years in his professional career to not turn a heel.

It is believed that an ex- AEW star was close to getting Steamboat to perform the unthinkable.

On the 18th of February, Joey Janela took to social media to retweet an Ricky Steamboat gratitude post and also reveal how he nearly fooled the legendary character into reversing his course by wearing the Bullet Club shirt. Joey Janela wrote:

I was almost able to trick Ricky to turn heel during the time he was the guest referee at a game between Me with Tama Tonga. He would not be able to count my pin anymore and show me the bullet club t-shirt. I informed him that they were a babyface-only stable until somehow he discovered they were not.

Ricky Steamboat last appeared for AEW in All Out 2023 where he was in the corner with Bryan Danielson in his win over Ricky Starks in a Strap Match.

I was almost able to trick Ricky into turning his back during the time he was the referee for an event between Me as well as Tama Tonga. He would stop counting my pins and then reveal the bullet club t-shirt. I informed him that they were a babyface-only stable until the day he realized they were not.
