WWE’s Baron Corbin Opens Up About NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov and Reflects on Selfishness
Baron Corbin’s quest for the coveted “WWE NXT” Championship hit a roadblock at the WWE Deadline Premium Live Event, where he faced Ilja Dragunov but fell short of clinching the title. Just a day before the intense showdown, Corbin shared insights on his renewed focus since returning to the developmental brand during an interview with Sam Roberts on the “Notsam Wrestling” podcast.
Expressing a significant shift in his mindset, Corbin remarked, “I’ve undergone a complete perspective change over the past four months here. My outlook on the main roster, my career, and even my character has evolved. It’s a philosophy where Ilja Dragunov stands out as the best, no ifs or buts. He’s a potential World Champion in my eyes—among the top in-ring performers, exceptional on the mic, with a great look and personality. I’ve decided to put him to the test, and the outcome will either hang or be dragged across the road. This reflects my new approach, a departure from being solely self-centered as I’ve dedicated myself to helping others.”
Despite Corbin’s determination, the “Lone Wolf,” who has yet to grasp the “NXT” Championship title, faced another opportunity during his second stint on “NXT.” This time, he went head-to-head with champion Carmelo Hayes on June 27th in a high-stakes encounter during the “NXT: Gold Rush,” a special episode amplifying the Gold Rush theme within the “NXT” realm.
